These fiestas are really worth visiting because they are both beautiful, traditional and totally crazy at the same time. When the horses enter the main square of the town, crowds of people are waiting for them and are trying to touch the horses and hold the upper legs of the horses in the air. it sounds absolutely crazy but it is really interesting to watch. When the show with the horses ends around 11 at night the party starts with lot of musik, alcohol (gin with lemon soda) and dansing until the early morning hours.Sunday, 12 August 2007
Traditional Menorca fiesta
These fiestas are really worth visiting because they are both beautiful, traditional and totally crazy at the same time. When the horses enter the main square of the town, crowds of people are waiting for them and are trying to touch the horses and hold the upper legs of the horses in the air. it sounds absolutely crazy but it is really interesting to watch. When the show with the horses ends around 11 at night the party starts with lot of musik, alcohol (gin with lemon soda) and dansing until the early morning hours.Christy, Tania and Menorca´s little mermaid
Hehehe, well, as you can see I find the situation hilarious and can´t stop laughing or blushing for that matter over the fact that Tania and I are asked to hold the breasts of the little mermaid for the stupid turist picture of the year. I really felt that I was offending the statue...If I did, I´m really sorry, it was just a joke...
Christy making a wish

Each year
on Menorca 8 traditional fiestas take place in different cities and villages on the island. During those fiestas beautiful horses are shown off and if you are lucky and are able to look into the little mirror hanging on one of the horses´forheads you can make a wish which according to the legend (and Linus) comes through within a year. So I did make a wish...no, I won't say what I wished for, but I really hope it will come true...
Terje and Linus playing chess

The only annoying part of the Menorca trip was the hours of chess playing that Linus and Terje managed to do. Well, I say annoying because I don´t know how to play chess and therefore could not spend hours on the beach doing that. Usually Terje and I would spend our days on the beach playing backgammon (Dahab in the Sinai, winter 2004 and 2005). But unfortunately for me Terje had left behind backgammon and rediscovered an old love, chess, and suddenly it was Linus that he would spend most of the day challenging instead of me.
Terje on one of the beaches of Menorca
In July I took a few weeks of holiday and went to Sweden to visit family and friends, and off course Terje, my boyfriend. We decided to visit Tania and Linus on Menorca for a few days. Menorca is a beautiful Spanish island with some amasing beaches. Some morecrowded than others, but all of them worth visiting. Everyday we would pack some water, fruits and pasta or couscous sallad and we would head it towards a new beach on the island. During our 6 days there we managed to visit 6 different beaches all over the island. Each on of us had a favorite one but we all agreed that they were all equally as nice. We stayed with Tania and her family and experienced spanish friendliness and hospitability. Every night we ate at home and got the opportunity to taste typical dishes from Menorca. Basically, visiting Menorca was a great experience and after those 6 days I felt strong and ready to face the real world again...well, my own reality, Barrancabermeja and Colombia.
